Authentic Greek Tzatziki Sauce

  • 2 cups yogurt Greek, plain
  • 1 tab White Wine Vinegar
  • 1/2 cucumber seedless, peeled and grated fine
  • 1/4 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper cracked
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 Tbsp dill fresh, chopped
  • 1 dash nutmeg, optional
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Extra virgin olive oil for drizzling and mint for garnish - optional

*Can add a small amount of lemon juice (1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon) to this if desired.

Instructions

  1. Place the grated cucumber in a strainer and gently squeeze down to remove any excess water.
  2. In a bowl place the Greek yogurt, vinegar, salt, pepper, and garlic, then stir to combine.
  3. Add in the strained cucumber, then stir in the dill, and the nutmeg. Drizzle with olive oil, and top with chopped mint if desired.
This will last up to two weeks covered in the refrigerator. If it gets watery all you have to do is mix it up again. The water is just separating from the yogurt so mix it to get the same consistency again.

NOTE: Amounts will vary according to you tastes. Add as much or as little of the ingredients according to your personal tastes.
